Life Groups Discussion: In God We Trust - Part 4 - The Sabbath
Small Group Discussion Questions
Sermon: Sabbath – Trusting God With Your Time
1. Icebreaker – Light & Relatable
What’s something that really frustrates you when it wastes your time?
If you had one completely free day with zero responsibilities, how would you naturally spend it?
On a scale of 1–10, how rested do you feel right now in this season of life?
2. Slavery vs. Sonship (Identity & Time)
The sermon said, “Slaves don’t get days off.” Where in your life do you feel more like a slave than a son or daughter?
Why do you think it’s so hard for us to stop working, even when we’re exhausted?
Have you ever believed, even subtly, “If I stop, everything will fall apart”? What does that reveal about trust?
3. The Pattern of Sabbath (Trusting the Sixth Day)
In Exodus, God gave double provision on the sixth day so they could rest on the seventh. What area of your life feels hardest to trust God with for 24 hours?
Have you ever worked extremely hard and still felt unfulfilled? What do you think was missing?
The sermon said if you “can’t afford” to take a Sabbath, something may be out of alignment. What might be out of alignment in your schedule right now?
4. The Posture & Practice of Sabbath
What activates your “drivenness”? (Phone, email, unfinished tasks, social media, productivity, etc.)
What would a realistic Sabbath look like for you in this season? (Family time, outdoors, worship, journaling, coffee dates, naps, etc.)
What would you need to say “no” to in order to say “yes” to rest?
5. Main Thesis & Action (Discipleship Focus)
Core Idea:
Sabbath is not laziness. It is a declaration of trust. When we rest, we are saying, “God, You are my provider, not my performance.”
Where is God inviting you to trust Him more — with your work, your finances, your kids, your future?
What would change in your spiritual life if you consistently created space to rest and pray?
What is one practical step you will take this week to begin honoring the Sabbath?
Schedule a day off
Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb”
Have a conversation with your employer
Block out family time
Spend extended time in prayer
Invite Jesus fully into your schedule
