Sermon: God’s Got You (Stewardship & Trust)

Money is not primarily a math problem, it is a spiritual trust problem.
God is inviting us to move from ownership → stewardship, from fear → trust, and from anxiety → peace, by submitting our finances to Him and learning to steward what He already says is “enough.”

1. Icebreaker – Low Pressure, Easy Entry

  1. What’s something small you find yourself thinking about way more often than you’d like to admit?

  2. When you hear the phrase “God’s got you,” what’s your honest first reaction?

  3. On a scale of 1–10, how much mental space does money take up for you in a normal week?

2. Real Life & Relationships

  1. What was money like in the home you grew up in? (Stressful, avoided, open, tight, generous, chaotic, etc.)

  2. Why do you think money conversations can feel so emotionally charged in relationships?

  3. If money stress disappeared tomorrow, what area of your life would feel the most relief?

3. The Spiritual Weight of Money

  1. Pastor James said fear and anxiety around money are not just emotional but spiritual. How does that change the way you think about financial stress?

  2. Have you ever experienced a season where you were making more money but didn’t feel more peace? What did that reveal?

  3. Scripture describes money like putting wages into a purse with holes. Where have you felt like you’re working hard but not seeing progress?

4. Trust vs Control

  1. Jesus says we cannot serve both God and money. Where do you see money competing for trust or control in your life?

  2. When finances feel uncertain, what is your natural response: tightening control, avoiding the issue, or inviting God into it?

  3. What does trusting God with money feel like to you right now: peaceful, risky, uncomfortable, freeing, or unrealistic? Why?

  1. Pastor James said we don’t carry the burden of ownership, we carry the mantle of stewardship. What would change if you truly believed that?
